RESPONDER I: Foundations of Emergency Response

Course Overview

In critical moments, the difference between tragedy and survival comes down to immediate, decisive action. Responder I is a foundational, hands-on training course designed to equip everyday citizens, outdoor enthusiasts, and tactical operators with the essential life-saving skills needed to handle trauma and medical emergencies before professional help arrives.

Built around the proven SMARCH-E algorithm (Scene Safety, Massive Bleeding, Airway, Respiration, Circulation, Hypothermia/Head, Expose, Evaluate, Elevate and Evacuation), this course strips away academic complexity and focuses on practical, high-impact interventions that save lives under pressure.

What You Will Learn

The SMARCH-E Framework: Master a systematic, step-by-step approach to assessing and treating trauma patients in high-stress environments.
Massive Bleeding Control: Learn proper application techniques for CoTCCC recommended windlass tourniquets, wound packing, and pressure dressings.
Airway Management: Understand how to identify airway obstructions and utilize basic positioning and clearing techniques.

Note: Responder I is included with the purchase of Responder II, as this class serves as the second session for Responder II and III students.

RESPONDER III: Advanced Tactical Scenarios & Triage

RESPONDER 3 pushes students beyond baseline trauma care and into the realities of high-stress operational environments. Building upon increased familiarity with the S-MARCH-E algorithm, this advanced course utilizes immersive, high-stress, scenario-based training featuring multiple specialized scenario types to test and refine critical life-saving skills under pressure.

Casualty Triage: Master rapid assessment, prioritization, and resource allocation when managing multiple patients simultaneously in chaotic environments.
Casualty Carries & Buddy Drags: Execute efficient, high-urgency extraction and movement techniques to pull casualties out of the line of fire.

Down, Disarm & Detain: Learn how to safely manage downed or neutralized threats while maintaining situational awareness and securing the scene.
Safety Over Medicine: Reinforce the core operational tenet that a responder cannot help anyone if they become a casualty themselves; master threat mitigation before medical intervention.

Course Details & Requirements

Prerequisites: This course is designed for beginners and experienced responders alike. Responder 1 & 2 is included in cost of class.
Equipment: Students will be provided a Refuge Training Kit($129.99 value). It will be yours to keep after class to continue training at home. Students will need to wear clothing that they are comfortable in and don't mind getting dirty.
