TACTICAL RADIO OPERATOR COURSE

The Tactical Radio Operator Course is a two-day, fully immersive field experience that picks up where Zero to Hero leaves off. There is no lecture hall and no string of disconnected drills. From the moment you arrive, you step into one continuous scenario where the normal world has stopped working. The grid is down, regular
communication has failed, and the people around you have no way to call for help.

You and your fellow operators become the communication that still works.
This is where the skills you built in Zero to Hero come to life. You will plan, build, and operate real communication systems under realistic conditions, then use them to solve real problems as the scenario unfolds. Along the way you might build a complete comms plan and PACE strategy from scratch, set up and run intelligence from a command post, assemble and program your own man-pack radio, rig field-expedient
solutions from whatever you have on hand, and put simplex, repeaters, digital modes, and HF to work when it counts. Past teams have distributed radios to neighbors, located a lost child using signal strength, and established an HF link when VHF could not reach. 

No two classes are ever the same. Every scenario is different, and the story goes wherever the team takes it. Whatever happens, our instructors are right there with you, guiding you through every step. You will not be tested or put on the spot. You will be supported while you do the real thing for the first time.

Because Zero to Hero is the foundation this course is built on, it is a required prerequisite. You will need the knowledge, the equipment, and the comfort with your radio that Zero to Hero provides in order to get the most out of these two days.
You will leave understanding your equipment, your plan, and yourself in a way no classroom can teach. You will leave as the kind of operator your community can count on.

REQUIRED GEAR
• An open mind
• Zero to Hero Course Manual
• Radio Kit from Zero to Hero (or equivalent)
• Note-taking materials
• Clothing and footwear appropriate for ALL possible weather conditions

SUGGESTED / OPTIONAL GEAR
• Backpack, chest pack, or similar for carrying your gear
• Windows laptop with charger
• Programming cable for your radio(s)
• Android phone or tablet with charger
• Any radio gear you have and want to bring
• Vehicle with space for passenger(s)
• Basic hand tools (multi-tool, screwdrivers, etc.)
• Anything else you think a radio operator should have
